Chipmunks are small, ground-dwelling rodents native to North America and Asia, known for their distinctive black and white facial stripes and prominent cheek pouches. These striped pouches can expand to three times the size of their head, allowing them to carry and store seeds and nuts for winter provisions. Chipmunks are solitary, territorial creatures that spend much of autumn in a frenzy of foraging, often burying thousands of seeds across their territory—some of which grow into new trees they never witness. Despite their seemingly lazy reputation, they are surprisingly agile climbers and can move swiftly through brush and undergrowth.
